Cipollino Fold
A single slab folded along its own grain
“The fold was already in the slab. All we did was follow it with the saw until the marble agreed.”
Cipollino Rosso arrives already striped — bands of iron red laid down as the rock was folded underground. This work follows those bands rather than cutting across them, so the carved fold reads as a continuation of the geology instead of an intervention in it.
The piece was cut from one slab; the two faces were bookmatched and rejoined at an angle, leaving a seam that only resolves when you walk past it.
